The manufacturing process of tilt slabs usually requires the use of a release agent at the time of
production – used in conjunction with formwork.
It is important to remove release agents used in the production process prior to painting.
Several methods can be used dependent on the type of material used as the release agents. The following
systems are recommended.
a) Completely waterblast the tilt slab to ensure it is clean and free of all surface contaminants.
c) Under some circumstances where no release agents have been used, a waterblasting to remove construction debris – dirt dust etc – may be sufficient.
Following preparation, apply a coat of selected primer and check the surface for pinholes. Pinholes are large voids/cavities that require filling prior to the application of the selected topcoats.
