Surface Preparation Guide

Surface preparation - tilt slabs/solid poured concrete

The manufacturing process of tilt slabs usually requires the use of a release agent at the time of Production – used in conjunction with formwork. It is important to remove release agents used in the production process prior to painting. Several methods can be used dependent on the type of material used as the release agents. The following Systems are recommended.
A) completely waterblast the tilt slab to ensure it is clean and free of all surface Contaminants.
B) scrub the surface with a solution of protective concentrated preprep Chemical degreaser / etch (926-00) mixed to the recommended ratio. Ensure The surface is completely scrubbed prior to thorough rinsing with water.
C) under some circumstances where no release agents have been used, a waterblasting to Remove construction debris – dirt dust etc – may be sufficient.
Following preparation, apply a coat of selected primer and check the surface for pinholes. Pinholes are Large voids/cavities that require filling prior to the application of the selected topcoats.
